Parambikulam Tiger Reserve is an excellent protected forest in the Anamalai range of Western Ghats. This piece is surrounded on all sides by protected sanctuaries of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The sanctuary is flourished with peninsular flora and fauna which are conserved by the government bodies. The area is under better protection and minimal human interferences preserve the nature in its original state.
The sanctuary is a part of major ecological continuation from Peechi to Eravikulam through Anamalai. This helps in the generation of large populations of wildlife in the sanctuary area. It is the home ground for different races of Adivasis (local tribe) who helps in maintaining a harmonious ecosystem. The thick and opulent habitat of the sanctuary with lavish water supply makes it an excellent habitat for wildlife. Thereby tourists can watch these animals and become part of the Mother Nature.
Western Ghats is one among the world’s 34 bio diversity hotspots and Parambikulam Tiger Reserve is perhaps the most attractive one for the wilderness in the entire stretch of Western Ghats. Thus it is popularly called as ‘Nature’s own abode’.
