Periyar forests. You can take a forest trekking with the forest watchers and

closely and capture them in your camera as well. Elephants, sambars, tigers,
gaurs, lion tailed macaques and nilgiri langurs are the major attractions of
Periyar wild life sanctuary.
Most of this
Kerala Jungle is covered with evergreen or semi-evergreen rain forests. This
national park was started in 1934 with a name Nellikkampatty Game Sanctuary and
later it was renamed as Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in 1950. The sanctuary was
declared as a Tiger Reserve in 1978. Later in 1991, Periyar was brought under
Project Elephant to protect the elephants from extinction.
You can
experience the joy of actual safari in Periyar. You can hire a approved guide
from Forest Department office near Thekkady Lake boat jetty and take a jeep to
visit the interiors of the jungle. The permit for Safari from forest
authorities is a must and read the literature on code of conduct regarding the
forest rules thoroughly before the start of hiking to avoid fines.
